Welcome

This blog is about a new walk with my husband Rick & I since he was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) or Lou Gehrig's Disease or MND (Motor Neuron Disease) on February 1, 2008.

This blog was started as a way to keep our family and friends and anyone else interested in our battle with ALS updated.
So as you read this blog please keep us in your hearts and prayers.

The blog starts from the most current to the oldest entry. Rick has started to blog now also as of April 1,2008 so this site has become officially "our blog".

My dearest husband Rick passed away on August 13, 2010,
2 1/2 yrs after diagnosis. Now I have to learn how to walk in the courage, strength and bravery that he did in fighting this disease. He promised me he would be waiting for me in eternity on a park bench. Together Forever!

Rick here...Licenseless in Whitemouth!!!

Rick here...It is hard to write this. I was for another all day ALS Clinic assessment yesterday. It is always so bittersweet. Through the course of the day you see about 6 different specialists. They all have input in helping to establish what my needs and progression are. Everyone is unfailingly helpful, kind and gracious to both Joan and myself. We came home with some more tips on making life a bit easier on the day to day stuff. My arms are getting weaker than I would like. The legs are pretty much shot.

I had to laugh at how the dr. brought up the driver license issue. He tested my feet (bad bad bad) and then asked..." So, are you thinking of getting your driver license renewed this month?". I replied "I was thinking about it as I drove in this morning". lol...I have actually not driven since early December as it just got to the place where it was no longer safe. But actually looking at giving up the license is a HUGE step. One more thing for me to let go of and never get back! It strikes to the heart of your independence. Anyways, the dr treated it with grace and preserved my dignity rather than saying "Your not fit to drive I am pulling your license!". He is a good guy! He said..."a good guide line on when to quit is when your family refused to ride with you anymore!" lol

WOW - Thank you Joan!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well...all I can say is WOW!!!! My wife threw me the most awesome Bday party that anyone could ever imagine !!!!
She singlehandedly turned the Whitemouth Hotel into a Las Vegas 'Elvis' stage ( including Elvis and Priscilla!)...streamers, balloons, decorating wayyyyyy over the top and on and on it goes! She thought of every detail and pulled it all off without a hitch! I don't know how she does it!
Whitemouth may never be the same!
She is truly the 'Party Queen'!!!!
Joan put so much thought and effort into the party and I am so thankful and appreciative of all she has done!!
My wife is the most selfless, thoughtful and generous hearted person that I have ever met...I am truly blessed!!!
Thank you sweetheart!!!!!!!!!!!!
